IEEE CCNC 2013 / CES 2013 Call for Demonstrations

Introduction
IEEE Consumer Communications and Networking Conference (CCNC), sponsored by the IEEE Communications Society, is a major annual international conference. Taking advantage of its co-location with CES (the world’s largest tradeshow on consumer technology), CCNC is organized with the objective of bringing together researchers, developers, and practitioners from academia and industry working in all areas of consumer technologies. CCNC 2013 will feature a special demonstration session showcasing the latest technological advances in the area of consumer communications and networking. In addition, there will be a unique opportunity for a small number of demonstrators to be shown to the greater public (~150,000 visitors) at the adjacent CES 2013 in the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC), for which we have organized space at the IEEE booth.
The demonstration session can host up to 30 demonstrators and will provide an exciting forum for researchers, developers, and entrepreneurs to present and discuss new applications and techniques, research demonstrations, recent research/implementation results, upcoming research challenges, practical implementations, commercial developments, future directions and novel application concepts. We envision the demonstration session as a means to exhibit innovations that have the potential to change the future landscape of consumer communications and networking.

Submissions
We invite researchers and developers from academic, industrial, and government laboratories to present their novel ideas, including works in progress and results that do not warrant a full technical paper. CCNC especially welcomes demonstrations of emerging and innovative technologies that have potential commercial application from nascent and incubating companies. Technology demonstrations, however, must be research prototypes and/or research ideas -- they cannot consist of actual commercial products.

Submissions should be in the form of a proposal describing the main contributions of the demonstration and the merits of the proposed ideas. Of course, many variations are possible. A technology prototype can range from a mockup using computers (instead of actual consumer devices) to a full-fledged collection of networked consumer devices. Be as specific as possible in describing what you will show. Proposals should include space, power and networking requirements.

A Demonstration Committee will evaluate the proposals. It is headed by the demonstration co-chairs and has representatives of venture capitalists among its members. Proposals will be evaluated mainly based on their potential to stimulate interesting discussions, exchange of ideas, and promote collaborations. The description of accepted demonstration proposals will also appear in the conference proceedings. The best demonstrator will receive a Demo Award.

Presentations
Accepted demonstrations will be presented during a special demonstration session during the conference. The presenter is responsible for the demonstration and equipment setup. Each demonstration should be accompanied by a poster of approximately 30" by 40" describing your research. The presenter is expected to stand next to his/her exhibit and discuss the work with other conference attendees. For every demonstrator a large table, a power socket, and Wifi Internet connectivity is available. The bandwidth of the available Internet connection is about one Mbit/s and may vary in the demonstration room. Please consult the demonstration co-chairs if you are uncertain whether your demonstration falls within the scope of the conference or if you require additional information.

CES 2013
IEEE CCNC has reserved a space in the IEEE booth at the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC). CES 2013 is adjacent to IEEE CCNC. At the booth, there will be a unique opportunity for a small number of demonstrators to be shown to the greater public. These demonstrators will be selected by the Demonstration Committee from the relevant proposals submitted for the IEEE CCNC Demonstrations Session. The following apply:
• Authors who would like their demonstrator to be considered for presentation at CES 2013 should send an email to the Demonstration Co-chairs by 30 September 2012.
• The demonstrator should have the potential to represent the leading edge spirit of the conference.
• The proposer should be willing to present the demonstrator at IEEE CCNC as well as all days of the CES.
• The proposing organization or company should become an official patron of IEEE CCNC 2013, to help covering the costs of the booth. Patronage packages can be found on http://www.ieee-ccnc.org/2013/patrons.html.

Submission Process
Demonstration proposals should be one or two (2) pages in length, in double-column IEEE format, including authors' names and affiliations and a short abstract. They will appear in the conference proceedings as well as on IEEE Xplore. Submission guidelines and formatting details can be found under Author Information on the CCNC web site. Only electronic submissions through the CCNC'2013 - Demos entrance in EDAS will be accepted.
